Clearing the channel is the easy part. The bit that matters is whether the water actually leaves the building afterwards, and whether anything up there needs attention.
The job
What Gutter Cleaning Includes
Leaf and debris removal out of the channel, then the outlets and downspouts checked so the water has somewhere to go. A gutter emptied of leaves that still drains into a blocked downspout has not really been cleaned.
While the ladder is up, the run gets looked at properly. Loose hangers, a section that has dropped, joints weeping, grit washing out of the bottom of the downspout. None of that is visible from the ground.
Anything we find gets told to you straight, with no pressure attached. Sometimes the answer is that it is fine and will be fine next year too.

Downspout Clearing and Flow Checks
Most of the blockages that actually cause damage are not in the open channel at all. They are at the outlet where the gutter necks down, or in the elbow at the top of the downspout, and neither is visible when you glance up.
So the downspouts get checked for flow rather than assumed. If one is packed, it gets cleared from the top.
If a downspout turns out to be crushed, split or coming away from the wall, that is past cleaning and into downspout repair. We will tell you which one you are looking at.

Routine Gutter Maintenance Checks
Water has to get from the roof to the ground and away from the house. There are four places that journey usually fails, and all four get looked at on a clean.

The channel
Leaves, needles, shingle grit and whatever has composted down into the bottom of it, out by hand rather than pushed along toward the outlet.

The outlet
The smallest opening in the whole system, and the one point you cannot judge without getting right up to it. A blockage here does damage soonest.

The downspout
Checked for actual flow, not just looked at. A downspout can be clear at the top and packed solid at the elbow.

Where it comes out
What happens at the bottom. Water discharging against the wall is a problem the gutter cannot fix on its own.
The drawing is a schematic of a typical run, not a photograph of a job. We do not have cleaning photography worth showing yet, and dressing an installation photo up as something it is not was never an option.

How Often Your Gutters Need Clearing
Tree species matters more than the number of trees. Pines drop year round and the needles travel into everything. Oaks dump heavily but briefly. A tall hardwood twenty feet clear of the house can be less trouble than a small conifer leaning over the valley.
Roof pitch, how sheltered the property is and where the prevailing wind pushes debris all move it too, which is why one side of a house often needs clearing when the other does not.
We do not sell a plan or a contract. Describe the property and we can put a realistic interval on it.

What happens if I just leave it?
A packed gutter stops being a gutter and becomes a trough. Water goes over the front in rain, down the fascia, and into whatever is underneath, which is usually a flowerbed and sometimes a foundation.
The slower damage is weight. Wet debris is heavy, and a loaded run pulls on its hangers until the pitch goes and the line starts to drop.
Can you clean gutters with guards fitted?
Yes. How it goes depends on the system. Some let us work straight off the top, others need panels lifted and refitted to reach the channel underneath, which takes longer.
Worth saying when you call so we turn up with the right kit for it. Guards themselves are covered on gutter guards and leaf protection.
Will you tell me if something is wrong up there?
Yes. That is half the value of having somebody on a ladder looking at it. Loose hangers, a dropped section, weeping joints or a downspout that is failing all get reported.
Reported, not automatically fixed. You decide what happens next, and if it is gutter repair it gets quoted separately.
Do you need access to the house?
Not usually to the inside. What we do need is clear ground to put ladders against the elevations, so it helps if cars, trash cans and patio furniture are not up against the wall.
Gates unlocked and dogs accounted for covers most of the rest.
Do you do it on a regular basis?
There is no plan to sign up to here. If you want it looked at regularly, say so at the time and we will take it from there.
