Commercial Gutter Installation in Hixson, TN

Shops, barns, metal buildings and workshops. The gutter gets sized to the roof draining into it, not to whatever happens to fit the fascia.

Where it differs

What Makes a Commercial Gutter System Different

The difference is not only that the runs are longer. A commercial roof tends to throw water off a much broader plane, funnel it into fewer places, and put it down right where the building is being used.

That changes what the channel has to be, how many outlets it needs and where they can go. A system that would be entirely sensible on a house can be the wrong call on a shop with the same footprint.

We are a gutter contractor, not a drainage engineer. If a building needs a designed and signed-off drainage scheme, that is a different trade and we will tell you so rather than guess at it.

What usually goes wrong

Downspout Placement on a Commercial Building

On a house, a gutter that spills means a stained board and a wet flowerbed. On a commercial building it means water crossing a doorway people use all day, a loading area that stays slick, or runoff sitting against a slab.

So where the water leaves the building matters as much as the gutter catching it. Outlet positions have to work around doors, drives, parking and whatever the lot is actually used for.

That is worth walking before anything is priced, which is why commercial jobs get looked at rather than quoted off a roof measurement.

How Commercial Gutter Sizing Is Worked Out

  1. How much roof drains into it

Whether the building sheds into one long side or splits across several, and how much plane is feeding each run.

  2. The layout up there

Valleys, changes of pitch, lean-tos and additions all concentrate water into particular spots, and those spots are what decide where the outlets have to sit.

  3. How many outlets it takes

How many, where they come down, and what they empty onto. A system that collects well and discharges badly has only moved the problem a few feet.

  4. Material

Aluminum covers most of this work. Heavier metals come up on some commercial jobs, and that is a conversation rather than a catalogue. See copper and specialty gutters.

You will not find sizes or gauges published here, because the right one depends on the building. That gets settled on the walk round, against the roof we are actually looking at.

Commercial Gutter Replacement

Replacing on a building that is still being used is mostly a coordination problem. Ladders go against the wall, part of the lot comes out of use for a while, and there is noise.

Tell us how the building gets used and when it is busy, and we will plan around it rather than turn up and find out.

Questions

Commercial Gutter Installation Questions

How do you work out what the building needs?

By walking it. The roof gets measured, the valleys and pitch changes get noted, and we look at where water is landing now and what is underneath it.

Expect as many questions about the ground as about the roof: doors, traffic, where vehicles park and what the lot gets used for.

Can you quote from plans or photos?

Plans are a useful start, particularly on a new build, and photos help us understand what we are coming to. Neither gets you a final number on its own.

Drawings do not show how the ground falls, where the gravel washes out or which door everybody actually uses, and those are the things that move an outlet.

Can you work around the hours we are open?

Usually. Tell us when the building is busy and which areas have to stay clear, and we will work to that where the job allows it.

Worth saying early rather than late, because it can change how the work is sequenced.

Can a system be replaced while the building stays in use?

Generally yes. The work moves along the building rather than happening everywhere at once, so it is usually a matter of keeping one stretch clear at a time rather than shutting anything down.

Can heavier metals be used instead of aluminum?

On some buildings, yes, and it is worth asking if you have a reason for it. Cost, lead time and what the structure is carrying all come into it, so bring it up early and we will work out what suits the building.

Start on copper and specialty gutters and raise it when you get in touch.
